From Rock Bottom to the Potter’s Wheel: My Journey of Healing and Clay
From Rock Bottom to the Potters Wheel: My Journey of Healing & Clay
Welcome to my very first blog post!
Launching this website feels like a massive milestone, not just for my business, but for my personal journey. For those of you who have followed my YouTube channel or met me at a Makers Market, you know that my pottery is more than just functional art—it’s the result of a life completely transformed.
Finding Light in the Dark
My path to ceramics wasn't a straight line. It followed two very painful years marked by loss, ill health, redundancy, and a battle with alcoholism. In July 2022, I walked into a pottery studio for the first time, looking for a way to heal.
I was hooked straight away. There was something about the clay that allowed me to process everything I had been through. By Christmas that same year, I had bought my own wheel, and by December 2023, I added a second-hand kiln to my studio.
Learning from the Best
I believe in always challenging myself, which led me to attend classes with master potter Jon French at Potclays. Learning from Jon was a turning point; his expertise helped me gain the confidence to move from a hobbyist to a maker. I’ve spent countless hours understanding my kiln and experimenting with unique clay and glaze combinations to create pieces that are truly one-of-a-kind.
The Leap into the Community
In Summer 2024, I took the plunge and attended my first market in a local church, followed by my first large Makers Market in September. Since then, I’ve had the honour of selling my work at some of the most iconic locations in the Potteries, including:
Middleport Pottery Museum
Gladstone Pottery Museum
World of Wedgwood Makers Market
The Gilder's Wheel Gallery (Harper Street, opposite Middleport)
Sharing the Process
In June 2025, I launched my YouTube channel to share my kiln openings, tutorials, and studio updates. The worldwide community I’ve found there is incredible, and your support has given me the confidence to keep growing.
Every piece I throw is designed to be a functional item to be used and loved every day. Whether it’s a mug that fits perfectly in your hand or a bowl with a "magic" glaze, I hope my work brings a little bit of that healing and joy into your home.
Thank you for being part of this story. I can't wait to see where the clay takes us next!
